LUNDY SUNDAY
Hello diving pepe’s
Rik came down to help get the boat off early and along to the first landing for just after 06.00; with an early leave planned for 07.30 and despite the not so fantastic forecast (nothing new there) we headed off with a boat load of 13 divers to Lundy, including 5 Lundy novices.
After a reasonable crossing we had a brew in the anchorage and a dive briefing for the hard boat newbie’s. We then set off to dive in the area of the Salado. The water was looking dark when we arrived which turned out to be a rich plankton bloom; giving us about 2m of a green viz.
Everyone dived successfully with a maximum depth of just under the 20m, Rik found some wreckage and Chris managed to carry out some sports diver skills with Mel. Well done to all the novices on their first Lundy dive and first hard boat trip too.
For the second dive we headed down to Gull Rock and most of us dived for a second time; this time we were not so lucky with the viz and in some areas this was down to less than 1m; despite this the novices all enjoyed their experience diving in a thick green soup! Hopefully this will disappear early giving us some good viz diving.
Jack helped pass on some of his boat handling knowledge to Shaun and Rik, and I would like to positively encourage Trainee crew (who have completed their boat handling course) to badger the skippers, come and get the boats off and get some experience of handling the boats in different conditions .
We were looking to get back for 5 and actually arrived back into harbour for just after 4.
It was a good start to the hard boat season for the club, I would like to thank everyone for a good day and to the instructors who enabled the novice diving.
Thanks to all
Martin Davis
